01 — Define the objective
Identify the assets, monitoring area and decisions the pilot should support. Name the operational owner and the field team involved.
02 — Assess the site
Review terrain, vegetation, access, radio paths and available connectivity. Agree the installation plan and realistic coverage assumptions.
03 — Monitor and evaluate
Establish environmental baselines, review data completeness and exercise the notification workflow. Any controlled fire testing requires a separately approved professional plan.
04 — Decide the next phase
Review results against agreed criteria, document limitations and decide whether to adjust, extend or expand the deployment.
From measurements to a response
- 1. Sensor nodes
Environmental measurements and site coordinates provide context for an emerging anomaly.
- 2. Gateway and network
Radio links carry observations to the monitoring platform. Check connectivity separately from detection coverage.
- 3. Platform and response team
Review the location and trends, route the notification and follow the agreed verification procedure.
What to record during a pilot
Agree acceptance criteria before installation. This evaluation framework describes what to measure; it does not present completed field-test results.
| Measure | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Data completeness | Expected and received reports, missing intervals and outage causes. |
| Radio connectivity | Node coordinates, gateway location, terrain and link observations. |
| Alert delivery | Generation, delivery and acknowledgement timestamps for an agreed test notification. |
| Detection evaluation | Defined event conditions, reference observations, false alerts and missed events. |
| Operational readiness | Responsible recipients, escalation contacts, verification steps and exercise findings. |
